Jason shares his explorations in Tibetan Buddhism, including life changing encounters with Lama Vajranatha and famed ngakpa Kunzang Dorje Rinpoche.

Jason discusses encountering the goddess Hekate and beginning to teach a magickal system associated with her.
Jason also compares Western ritual magick to the tantric sorcery of the Himalayas, and considers the role of natural talent in spiritual accomplishment.

I Lived as an anagarika in a Buddhist Monastery in the early 1990’s based on the Mahasi methodology, and I found it a skilful means, within the context of cultivating other factors of mind. As a tool for bringing a closer look and acknowledgement of what’s happening, it sharpens the attention. It is objective, and impartial. It is clear, this is what is happening, it lessened the chance for self deception, aversion, confusion, pushing away or clinging by clarifying exactly and precisely what was going on, so you gain understanding. I also found it helped break that automatic and habitual identification with mind states that we tend to overlook and it helped break repetitive states of mind. Again within the context of other skills.

Could it also be that because Leigh practises "soft" jhanas taught by Aya Khema as opposed to vissudhimagga jhanas that he hasn't stumbled into "the powers"? The people who do the latter tend to verify these and also say that a 4th soft jhana is more akin to access concentration and while we can do insight practice from there, the mind isn't refined enough to develop magical capacities with that.

no its nowhere near access concentration. samadhi cannot be cultivated at all if the mind is moving between different objects.

Let me say it with one sentence,...If you don't preserve your sexual energy it's impossible to open your energy channels and chakras, that means you never gonna achieve Razor sharp Mindfulness (Knowingness). You have to see clearly every single thought popping in your head to be able to stop lust( craving for sex) Even then ,you have to investigate how single thought triggers feelings, emotions and actions. Without that never gonna reach any awakening. Unfortunately most of the people doing sex and then meditate,.. this like a hamster wheel, spinning in circle in vain. Thank you for your videos!

Don Juan and Yaqui Indian history - In the 19th century a leader among the Yaqui in Northern Mexico rebelled against the government and led a renegade group north into the hinterlands of the Sonoran Desert with many crossing the border into Arizona. The Mexican government embarked on an extermination campaign. This is similar to the same scenario that played out in the Southwest US and probably during the same time period 1870-1910. The vague reference to Don Juan being an orphan probably originated during this period of conflict. Children were often taken or adopted and became houseboys and girls to middle and higher status families, likely regional landowners, with fealty to the government. They were very often treated poorly. Information on the Yaqui uprising can be found online and contextualizes the background timeline of Don Juan and his circle of cultural connections. The Yaqui Indians were noble and intelligent people. It's not surprising that they would hold onto their root belief systems as a means of cultural protection. Julian was an actor but also had exposure to mystical and magical practices through his associates in theatre. Acting theory is itself very much concerned with imagination, projection, and creation of contexts and bending perception through movement, mime and makeup, which easily lend themselves to the sorcerers art. Stalking, perception, visualization and imagination are integral skills.

Great exchange, gents, and I hope you will reconvene soon. There were so many good things to consider... Many thanks. On a specific note, like some folks, I think Mark gets homeopathy wrong by approaching it entirely from materialist science. It's a POV held by many who are otherwise involved with spiritual or esoteric practices or studies. Somehow, the division between the two has occured, so that science must remain materialist for it to be science. (Nevermind that a century ago Rudolf Steiner developed, along lines opened up by Goethe, what he termed Spritual Science which is entirely credible.) In this case, it is erroneous to think that a homeopathic remdy couldn’t possibly work because the end attained after multiple dilutions has no actual substance left in it. That is true - because what has been captured is the energetic resonance or the frequency of the original material involved, which potency is more magnified the more one dilutes. Think of sound: there are frequencies that one cannot hear above a certain level, but are there. And then there are the energetic effects of our bodies as they encounter EMFs. And so the frequency of remedies work with certain circumstances that include the physical as well as the emotional and psychological condition of patients. It’s a kind of psychosomatic remedy, and some remedies have a better fit than others.

Any religion that has meditation and contemplation practices will run across the siddhis, a fact that people who cling to the wrong view of materialism find absolutely abhorrent and will use every opportunity to attempt to remove. Read Ajahn Brahmali's work The Authenticity of the Early Buddhist Texts if you want the opinion of an actual Pali scholar.

It's a little shocking to me - it feels like his reasoning is somewhat specious given that the buddha also speaks of how, having attained the fourth jhana, one is able to incline their mind towards and achieve the supranormal powers easily. He does this in multiple suttas! All that the Kevatta Sutta says is that those powers have drawbacks, compared to the power of instruction...

@@92AlexanderSyes but here we have a supposedly extremely advanced practitioner and teacher who denies them despite the fact that people absolutely do have such experiences. As I listen more to the video, I find the same frustrations as any other time I listen to Leigh Brasington. He confuses his opinion for fact and doesn't even consider that he could be wrong. I like him but I just think he's wrong when it comes to this. If he wants to live in a boring material world by all means do so, but don't be arrogant about it. Not you, him. That being said I like most about him and don't expect even the best teacher to be totally agreeable haha. Doesn't mean they are wrong or I am, I think I would just like less certainty on topics that you don't know about.
